Up until this point, the State of Michigan has not approved cannabis consumption bars. Any plans to revise the plan went on hold during Covid. But all of that is officially changing, with the first Michigan weed lounge coming now.
Where is it?
Maybe it’s because of the University of Michigan, or maybe it’s because of the proximity to Detroit, but the lounge is going to be in Ann Arbor. Holistic Industries, one of the largest privately held cannabis companies in the country, is behind it. Holistic’s retail brand is Liberty Cannabis.
The lounge’s location will be at 336 S. Ashley Street, Ann Arbor, next to the Liberty Provisioning Center dispensary. This is slated to be a lounge allowing onsite consumption of cannabis.
How is it going to work?
You’ll need a reservation to get into the lounge. If you’re a customer or patient from the dispensary next door, with a same day receipt, you can get a 45-minute block for free. If not, no worries, as you can still get a 45-minute entry for $10 per person.
Hours of operation will be from noon to 8pm, with a maximum occupancy of 19 people to start. You’ll need to show ID proving you’re 21. When you arrive, you’ll find a front check-in area, service counter, with the restroom and consumption lounge on the first floor.
When is it scheduled to open?
Look for the lounge to open in late 2021, or more realistically, early 2022.
This will not be the only weed lounge in Ann Arbor. As many as 28 additional weed lounges are to be greenlit in the region, making the area a true cannabis bar destination. Assuming that happens, expect entertainment options to be added, tours, and more.
Be sure to check back on this post, as will update with more information as the project develops over the next few months.
